About this event

Hosted by

ISTA Online

Join ISTA for a dynamic virtual PD&L session designed for IB DP Theatre educators and drama teachers seeking to integrate cutting-edge AI tools into their teaching and creative practice.

Led by an expert practitioner, this 90-minute workshop explores how generative AI can act as a powerful creative partner in the theatre-making process. From devising and design to character development and assessment preparation, we’ll explore how tools like ChatGPT, image generators, and AI-powered scriptwriters can meaningfully support student learning and artistic expression.

You’ll leave with ready-to-use strategies, engaging classroom activities, and a deeper understanding of how to harness AI ethically and creatively—while keeping collaboration, humanity, and storytelling at the heart of your practice. This session is ideal for teachers of secondary-aged students looking for innovative, subject-specific professional development that enhances student engagement and aligns with curriculum goals, including IB DP Theatre.

Learning objectives

In this workshop participants will:

  • Identify key generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, image generators, AI scriptwriters) and describe their potential applications in theatre education.
  • Experiment with at least one AI tool to support a specific aspect of theatre-making, such as devising, character development, or design concept generation.
  • Explore practical strategies for incorporating AI into classroom activities that align with curriculum goals, including IB DP Theatre assessment components.
  • Discuss ethical considerations and classroom guidelines for using AI in a way that maintains student voice, creativity, and ownership of the storytelling process.
  • Reflect on how AI can complement—not replace—human creativity and how to balance innovation with the collaborative, interpretive nature of theatre.
