Where Individuals Become Ensembles

Inspiring the next generation to lead, create, and connect through the arts

Why ISTA Festivals?

Reconnection

In a world where young people feel increasingly disconnected, ISTA festivals offer a vital space to reconnect—through creativity, collaboration, and shared stories.

Exploration

At a time when education prioritises outcomes over exploration, ISTA champions process, play, and artistic discovery—nurturing confidence, curiosity, and self-awareness.

Transformation

More than just arts events, they are transformative journeys that foster empathy, ignite imagination, and build essential life skills.

What is an ISTA Festival?

In small, artist-led ensembles, students work together to devise original performances inspired by a shared theme. Whether through theatre, movement, music, or multimedia, each piece is shaped by the voices in the room.

It’s a space to experiment, take creative risks, and craft something meaningful—without the pressure of competition or perfection.

Each festival begins with a local story and a global theme—connecting participants to the place, the people, and the wider world. Through inquiry, reflection, and creative response, students explore big ideas such as identity, justice, or resilience.

These stories become a powerful lens through which they interpret the world—and their place in it.

ISTA Ensemble Method

Where Every Voice Shapes the Story

At the heart of every ISTA Festival is the ISTA Ensemble Method—our signature, non-competitive approach to theatre-making that puts students in the driver’s seat of their creative journey.

More than a festival: other specialist experiences

Feature Festival
Immersive, subject-focused experiences that dive deep into specific disciplines, themes, or artistic approaches. These include InterArts Festivals blending multiple art forms, and Deep Dives centred on areas like Musical Theatre or Balinese Theatre.
Focus Festival
Festivals shaped by a specific theme, community, or location—bringing together young people to explore identity, inclusion, and shared humanity. Site-specific versions use the surrounding environment as a direct source of inspiration.
Bonsai Festival
Smaller-scale, high-impact festivals designed for 32–48 students, ideal for intimate, flexible events that retain ISTA’s core ensemble approach. With a reduced team and a trusted Local Rep, Bonsai Festivals ensure quality experiences even when numbers shift.
Bespoke Festival
Custom-designed festivals created in partnership with a specific school or community. These tailored experiences reflect local goals, context, and artistic vision, resulting in something truly one-of-a-kind.
