Explore how to bring Shakespeare to life through text and performance. Using TEAM, and other techniques, to shape directorial choices and unlock multiple interpretations.
About this event
This 90-minute virtual workshop invites educators to explore practical and engaging approaches to teaching Shakespeare through performance. Using the TEAM framework (Tension, Emotion, Atmosphere, Meaning), participants will examine how directorial choices can shape interpretation and deepen students’ understanding of text in performance.
Through active, classroom-ready activities, the session will explore strategies for making Shakespeare more accessible, collaborative, and creatively engaging for students. Participants will investigate how different staging and performance choices generate different meanings for an audience, while also developing adaptable techniques that can be immediately applied in the classroom.
By the end of the session, educators will leave with practical tools, performance-based approaches, and a flexible activity structure to support students in actively exploring Shakespeare’s language, character, and dramatic intention.
Who it is for
This virtual workshop is designed for theatre educators, directors, and practitioners seeking practical and engaging approaches to teaching Shakespeare through performance. It is particularly suited to those working with secondary and pre-university students, and looking to strengthen interpretive skills, deepen connections to text, and build confidence in creative, contemporary staging.
