About Film Production Roles: Poster Set (Digital)

Help students understand how films are created by introducing the five creative roles at the heart of every production.

Designed for IB DP Film, A Level Film Studies, university foundation courses and secondary media programmes, this professionally designed poster collection provides a clear visual introduction to the collaborative nature of filmmaking.

Each poster focuses on one essential production role, combining a striking cinematic illustration with a concise explanation of that role's creative contribution to the filmmaking process.

This resource includes

  • Five high-resolution printable posters
  • School-site licence allowing unlimited printing within one school

The five posters

Director

The creative leader of the production, responsible for shaping the overall vision of the film. The director works with every department to guide performances, visual storytelling and the emotional impact of the finished work.

Cinematographer

The visual storyteller who transforms ideas into images. Working closely with the director, the cinematographer uses lighting, camera movement, composition and lens choice to establish the mood, style and atmosphere of the film.

Screenwriter

The architect of the story. The screenwriter creates the screenplay, developing the narrative, dialogue, characters and dramatic structure that provide the foundation for the entire production.

Editor

The storyteller in the cutting room. The editor assembles the filmed material into a compelling narrative, shaping pacing, rhythm, tension and emotion through the careful selection and arrangement of every shot.

Sound Designer

The creator of the film's sonic world. Through dialogue, sound effects, ambience and audio texture, the sound designer builds atmosphere, enhances emotion and helps audiences experience the world beyond the image.

✓ Create an engaging visual reference students return to throughout the course

Rather than becoming simple wall decorations, these posters become everyday teaching tools that help students understand how the creative decisions of different specialists combine to produce a finished film.

About the resource

Successful filmmaking depends upon collaboration. While every film production involves many specialist roles, these five posters introduce the creative positions that most directly shape a film's story, images and sound.

Whether students are analysing professional films or creating their own productions, understanding these roles helps them appreciate both the artistic and collaborative nature of cinema.
