About this event

FRAME is a three-day, in-person filmmaking immersion inspired by the framework of the IB DP Film course. Created for students considering or beginning the course, it builds creative and technical confidence by placing participants inside the full filmmaking process.

Working in cross-school production teams, students take on key film roles and rotate through focused workshops in script work, camera, sound, and editing. Guided by IB Film specialists, they discover how ideas from the course shape creative decisions in both production and post-production.

The experience concludes with a screening of the original short films created during the event. Students leave with greater confidence, practical filmmaking skills, and a stronger grasp of how the IB DP Film course works in practice. The short films they create may also contribute to their developing IB Film portfolios.

Your ISTA experience

Film screening

Students experience a shared cinema screening and actively unpack what they observe through guided reflection and dialogue. Filmmaking techniques and storytelling choices explored on screen become reference points within FRAME workshops and continue to inform students’ creative decisions throughout the event.

The artists

At every FRAME event, students work with a carefully selected team of artists who guide them through the foundations of filmmaking.

These artists are chosen not only for the quality of their professional practice and knowledge of the IB DP Film course, but also for how they engage young people, support collaboration, and create an environment where ideas can be explored through making.

Through practical, production-based workshops, they introduce key roles, processes, and language from the IB DP Film course, supporting students who are beginning or considering the course in developing an understanding of the production roles and how meaning is constructed on screen.

Each event features a different combination of artists, making every FRAME experience unique.

Artist and session information will be shared in the e-programme.

Educator workshop

Alongside the student filmmaking programme, accompanying educators participate in a dedicated specialist workshop led by an experienced film practitioner. These sessions offer creative inspiration, practical production insight, and space for professional reflection. Workshop leader details will be confirmed closer to the event.
