Position Overview: The American School of Dubai Art Department offers meaningful drama development for students and fosters an appreciation of the theatre and the arts. ASD has a state-of-the-art theatre, which offers a professional facility that can support a variety of visual and performing arts. ASD is seeking an energetic, passionate candidate who can serve to enhance, enrich and extend learning opportunities for students.
Instructional Responsibilities:
- Effective delivery of the drama curriculum
- Provide an environment that is conducive to learning
- Effectively manage each group of students while providing for a variety of learning styles, ability levels, and educational backgrounds
- Maintain rigorous and appropriate learning expectations of all students at all times
- Monitor student learning and make appropriate modifications of goals and strategies to meet students’ needs
- Maintain accurate up-to-date records of student progress and attendance
- Direct the annual high school musical
- Collaborate closely with the school wide Arts teams and parent volunteer groups
- Engage parents and students in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communications about student progress
- Be available to parents and students outside of school hours
- Engage in department/team planning, curriculum review, and other activities
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues in the development of cohesive curriculum materials and the establishment of instructional goals
- Cooperate with and participate in the planning and evaluation of the school program
- Keep current in education through coursework, in-service programs, and by attending professional meetings and conferences
- Maintain a proficient working knowledge in school related technologies and employ technology (computer, video, internet, etc) as appropriate to enhance instruction
- Engage with students in meaningful activities beyond the classroom which extend learning experiences and meet the needs of students (coaching, organizing field trips,
- sponsorship of clubs, events, community service projects, etc.)
Schoolwide Responsibilities:
- Engage with the administration in a committed effort to continue to grow as an educator
- Openly support and abide by all school policies and procedures
- Model ASD Values in interactions with the school community
- Take on other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with a valid teaching certificate/license in content area and/or related field
- A minimum of two years, current, full-time related teaching experience with demonstrated expertise in subject matter
- Experience with current best practices, current teaching materials, and current instructional strategies as well as recent professional growth activities
- Current, valid teaching certification (license) in a related field, subject and/or grade level
- Demonstrate focused instruction and assessment of student learning
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in an international/overseas school setting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with standards based grading
- Participation in current and relevant professional growth activities
- Demonstrate focused instruction and assessment of student learning
- Be open-minded, eager and willing to collaborate in a team environment in order to plan and prepare for effective instruction within the classroom
- Demonstrate commitment to personal continuous professional growth and development
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships
- Represent ASD with students, parents, colleagues, and broader school community in a professional manner
Terms of Employment: General working hours are from 7:45 am - 3:45 pm, Monday through Thursday and 7:45 am - 12:45 pm (on site) & 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm (remote/flexible) on Fridays. ASD employees are responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
